Is there a way to connect to a Wi-Fi ais plug or GPS on the iPad to use in the navigation mode?

Yes, provided the AIS or GPS interface to the Wi-Fi network is providing standard NMEA 0183 data.
This can be configured in Coastal Explorer using Settings > Electronics > Configure a New Device. You will need to know whether your network device is using TCP or UDP, what port number it is sending data on, and for TCP, the IP address. All of this information should be available in the configuration settings of the interface device or its documentation.
In addition to that “generic” support, any NMEA 0183 or NMEA 2000 devices connected a Nemo Gateway on your Wi-Fi network will work with Coastal Explorer without any configuration required.
