Change alert sounds

I use CE all the time to set an anchor alarm but the actual alert tone is rather feeble intermittent beep that will often not wake me from a deep sleep. (Yes, I’ve turned up the volume…)

Is there, or could there be a way to change the tone itself to something more ‘alarming’?

Hi eheffa,

Sorry, but there is currently no way to customize the sound that is played when an alert fires.

I had the same issue. I added a pair of external amplified computer speakers to the system, now it’s much louder
Be sure to get wired speakers, not Bluetooth. Bluetooth likes to disconnect after a while with no audio being played.

Thank you Steven.

Could that be put on a list of potential upgrades?

That could work thanks.

One other thing to check…

Before many (or any) PC’s had real speakers and built-in sound systems they just had beepers that couldn’t play arbitrary sounds and didn’t have any way to adjust the volume. These days most have real sound systems, but many still have the beeper.

Coastal Explorer can be configured to use either the beeper or the speaker using “Settings > Alerts”. If it is configured to use the internal beeper, then adjusting the volume won’t make the alerts any louder since the beeper only has one volume level. Conversely, if it is configured to use the “default playback device” (the normal sound system), the volume controls will affect the alerts (as will the “mute” setting).

Thanks Brad,

Both methods work on my laptop but it would be nice to be able to alter or choose from a number of different alert sounds…

It’s not essential but in the “Nice to Have” features column.
