Line/Area function

Working with the Line/Area feature.

To the left side, is a line I created using this feature. I wanted to place a line to highlight the danger zone on the west side of that area - decrepit day marks with no reflectors, but sturdy posts I would definitely NOT want to hit at night coming back into my marina.

Q1 - any way to make that line wider? That is a pretty skinny line.

Q2 - From what I have read - for a boundary circle, I should get an alarm if I cross into the space enclosed within the boundary circle. Does a line work the same way? Is there an alarm, if I cross the line ?

And yes, I have looked at the online help function within CE. It talks about “Boundary Areas” which is not how the feature is labeled in the menu, but is probably what is referred to. But, that help page mainly talks about AREAS - not simple lines.

Second question. For boundary circles, you can actually lock the position. So, you do not accidentally move it on the chart.

For lines, you can’t lock the position of the entire line. You should be able to. That would make a lot of sense.

You ought to be able to at least lock the position of the individual points that make up the line. The feature exists in the properties menu when you click on one of the points in the line. But, I cannot actually get the lock position checkbox to stay checked. In addition, that properties box disappears randomly.

A1 - It is not possible to make a boundary line thicker, but you could turn it into an area which would make it more prominent. You’ll need to add a few more points to define the area and use the Fill option to do that.

A2 - Yes, Boundary Lines can sound an alert when they are crossed while Boundary Areas and Boundary Circles can sound an alert when they are entered or exited.

You can lock all of the points on a Boundary Line by clicking the right mouse button and selecting “Lock Boundary Position”.

I haven’t heard of any problems with the lock option not sticking or the properties box disappearing randomly…you might want to contact Rose Point Support to get to the bottom of that,

I touched on how you might achieve this on Trawler Forum on this thread:

Thanks - I have played around with marking an area and filling. That does provide a more obvious visual reference, particularly at night.
