Maretron WSO2000 Wind Transducer

I recently added a Maretron WSO2000 wind transducer on my NMEA2k bus. It popped right up in CE and I’m able to display apparent and actual wind speeds and direction, temperature and barometric pressure. A couple of questions:

  1. Regarding actual wind speed and direction. Ground wind direction looks good and changes very little as the boat’s heading changes. Ground wind speed, however, does change considerably with heading and it appears that ground wind speed is really apparent wind speed (If the boat is going 10mph in a 10mph head wind the ground wind speed indicator would display approximately 20mph. If the boat is going 10mph in the same direction as a 10mph breeze the ground wind speed indicator would display approximately 0mph.)

  2. How does CE distinguish between Ground Wind Speed/Direction and True Wind Speed/Direction?
