More features for survey downloads

I’ve been playing with the XYZ files provided by USACE and find for the most part the user experience is not that bad, but of course when we close out Rose Point we have to do it again.

I know you are looking at a better way to get the surveys to Rose Point and was wondering if possible once the information is put into R.P. Could you make it where it doesn’t get lost when R.P. Is closed.

One thing that makes more work inputting the downloads is opening up and selecting the data field for the information and if possible it would be nice to only have to do that once while you are downloading the surveys.

Thanks as always Bubba

I’ll add re-opening the surveys to our to-do list. Perhaps it would also be helpful if the survey information form used the last settings by default?

Hey Brad, I was also curious about the surveys. I noticed they’ve been talked about some, and I really love having them even if they are a pain to load. Has there been any head way on using some other format? I’ve manually converted the .XYZ files to current local gauge before, will the hydro graph data if it is an option be able to automatically adjust to the stage? Do you think it would ever be feasible to maybe have someone from the office push survey data to our boats via a cloud layer or something of that sort?

I really like the idea of using the Portal with Layers to get the information to the boats.:+1::+1::+1:

We have been told that the USACE is working on converting the surveys to IENC overlays. This will standardize the datums so the files could be loaded directly without needing to enter the information about how to interpret them. It also means that you would be able to install them for an area and Rose Point ECS would be able to keep them up to date just like charts. (And portal admins would be able to subscribe their vessel’s to the appropriate areas.)

Unfortunately, I do not know when they will have this new system working…

I like what I’m hearing but just had a chat with my contact at Portland district usace and he had this information that I thought I’d pass on for what it’s worth. He stress that is the IN land and not coastal USACE mission.
