New Rose Point ECS Portal Preview

We’ve been building a new Rose Point ECS Portal to support more of the features you’ve been asking for. We still have more work to do, but we feel this new portal is now ready to be previewed and we’d love to hear your feedback on the changes we’ve made so far. The new portal can be accessed at https://portal.rosepointecs.com/

The new portal looks a lot more like Rose Point ECS and (almost) always displays a chart showing your fleet’s vessels next to a “browser panel”.

When you first visit the portal, the browser panel will display the portal’s Dashboard which is very similar to the dashboard in the current portal. You can always get back to the dashboard by clicking the Rose Point logo near the top of the sidebar buttons along the left edge of the window. Some portal features that used to have their own sidebar buttons are now only accessible via the dashboard.

The dashboard has a new search feature that you can use to quickly find one of your fleet’s vessels by name. The search box is normally off the top of the page so you might need to scroll to see it. However, you can also just start typing while the dashboard is open and the search box will scroll into view and start displaying matching vessels. Clicking on a listed vessel will show that vessel’s details. (You can also press the Enter key to show the details of the first vessel listed.)

The new portal can display vector charts from NOAA and the USACE. These appear just like they do in Rose Point ECS and you can click on chart objects to see all of their properties.

The new places sidebar button lets you see US Coast Pilot and USACE Ports and Facilities information just like in Rose Point ECS.

The new conditions sidebar button lets you see tide and current predictions, river stages, weather observations, warnings, and forecasts and works very much like the feature in Rose Point ECS.

The portal’s settings area has been expanded to include some of the settings found in Rose Point ECS such as user-selectable units for distances, speeds, etc., vector chart display options, and more.

If your fleet uses vessel groups, we’ve made it possible to switch groups from every page that is affected by the current group selection and you can also select “Entire Fleet” when looking at the Fleet Status and Fleet Tracking pages. You’ll find this option at the top of the browser panel wherever it can be used. (Vessel Groups are a feature of Fleet Services.)

The layers feature that used to be in the tracking area now has its own sidebar button and the tracking area is just for listing the fleet vessels and showing their positions. We’re working on a new type of layer that you can create and edit from within the portal rather than importing NOB files edited with Rose Point ECS. These can be used in the portal now, but the new layers do not yet work in Rose Point ECS. (Layers are a feature of Fleet Services.)

These are just some of the bigger changes we’ve made. The new portal is filled with other enhancements and was designed to better support logically adding more features in the future.

Please let us know what you think of the new portal by adding topics to Rose Point ECS Portal - Rose Point Navigation Systems where you can also ask any questions or provide suggestions that you might have.
