I am trying to find a tool to add to the sidebar route monitor that will allow me to choose a waypoint on the route and have it give me an eta separate from the destination waypoint. I have worked on other boats where I can select “hell gate” and it shows a mid route point eta but on my copy for this boat I cannot find that option. It was a drop down box where I could choose any point from the routeand get eta info to where I don’t have to scroll through the list. It was always there as a separate eta. Any thoughts? Thanks
You might be referring to something that was in a much older version of Coastal Explorer and Rose Point ECS. The recommended way of doing something like that now is by only naming “important” waypoints and then turning off the option to “Show unnamed waypoints” in the Route Monitor instrument (right-click on the instrument to access its option menu). This will remove all of the waypoints with the default 3-digit names from the list while still showing any waypoints with names along with their ETAs.
Ya you’re probably right, my version is up to date which is why I probably can’t find it anymore. Thanks
Is the “Show unnamed waypoints” option going to work for you, or do you still have a need/desire for the old method?
We were trying to make something that didn’t need to be fiddled with as much while underway as the old popup. The idea here is based on the notion that many waypoints are not particularly “notable” while others mark major progress, decision points, or other places of importance along the route and that there are far fewer of those. By getting into the habit of naming only the “important” waypoints and hiding the unnamed waypoints, the Route Monitor can automatically show you the most relevant information without needing to be adjusted.
We are certainly interested in hearing about any use cases that this doesn’t handle well, or other ideas anyone might have to improve things.
