We’ve been working on a big update to both Coastal Explorer and Rose Point ECS and are ready to start beta testing! The primary purpose of this update is to modernize the way the programs are built in order to take better advantage of today’s personal computers and to improve our ability to maintain and enhance the software.
The new programs were rebuilt from scratch and, for the most part, we tried to make them match their predecessors as much as possible, but we did do a little polishing and added a few new features in the process.
One exciting change is that both Coastal Explorer and Rose Point ECS are now available for Macs! (We are also working on a version for Windows on Arm, but that isn’t quite ready yet.)
If you would like to help us out by performing some beta testing, please use the appropriate download link below to install the new software. Here are some things to keep in mind:
- This is “beta” software, so there are bugs and missing features that would not be acceptable in a released product.
- You should not depend on beta software for your primary navigation aid. We recommend only using it on a shore-side or backup computer.
- All support for the beta test must be done via this forum.
- Refer to Notable Differences Between v4 and v4.5 for major intentional changes.
- Refer to List of features that are not implemented for status on missing features.

You may install the beta testing version on the same device as the release (V4). The beta version will not interfere with the regular software. In fact, this type of installation might work best as the beta will use the same activation as the regular version. (We are working on a way to allow use of the beta on a separate device without using up an activation, but that is not ready yet.)
