Here’s a list of features that are not implemented at this time. We will update this list as things change.
General
Voyage Plan Document (“NOB File”) layers – only cloud-synchronized layers are supported.
The Coastal Explorer Community Guide Book (coastal-explorer) – this features seems to be very misunderstood and we are working on a replacement that will preserve the existing data.
Undo and redo – these have not been implemented as we’ve found that many people do not use them at all, or only to undo accidentally deletions. Deleted items can now be restored using the “Layers > Deleted” page.
Cut, Copy, and Paste of navigation objects – these have not been implemented as we’ve found that they are rarely used other than to move objects from one document/layer to another which can now be done with the “Move to Layer…” commands.
ETA Calculator (rose-point-ecs) – this has not been implemented and we question how useful it really is, please let us know if you would miss this during the beta test.
Electronics
NMEA 0183 Talker options – the main reason for having these options was to provide fine control over what is sent to older autopilots that could be very “finicky”. Over the years, the need for this has dwindled and it may no longer be relevant. We hope to gather feedback during beta testing to help determine if these options need to be implemented.
NMEA 0183 Repeater options – enabling the repeater usually causes more problems than it solves and we would like to discontinue it, but we are open to any feedback you may have about it during beta testing.
NMEA 0183 Data Server – we have replaced the data server with something that is much easier to use, but will only work with Rose Point apps. If you depend on the data server to serve NMEA 0183 data to other apps or devices, please let us know!
Charts
Raster charts – v4.5 removes the ability to use raster charts as they are no longer being updated by NOAA and CHS has nearly completed their discontinuation as well.
C-MAP MAX charts (coastal-explorer) – this chart format is being discontinued by C-MAP and we are looking into alternatives, including a newer form of C-MAP chart.
Route Planning
Route obstacle detection – this is coming soon
Route ETA using currents – this is coming soon
Predicted Log Race style routes (coastal-explorer) – this is coming soon
Today’s update adds Wheel-Over Line style routes, SAR route patterns, activation a track as a route, and XYZ Surveys to Rose Point ECS, so they have been removed from the list.
Last night’s update includes many, mostly minor, improvements and bug fixes as well as support for “Old-Style” Fleet Background Layers and the Default Formatting settings in Rose Point ECS.
This week’s update included the Screens browser and the depth and water temperature graph instruments. (The custom screens currently only support chart panels; video panels are coming soon.)
Today’s update changes the default vector chart display to show streets and other features in land areas. This is the same display that you’d get by enabling Hybrid Vector Chart along with Street Map, but this is an easier way enable that and lets you quickly switch to Hybrid with Photo or Topo maps. If you prefer the solid tan land areas, you can turn off the “Enhanced streets and other features” option in “Settings > Chart Display > Vector Chart Display”.
Other changes include:
Added pan-tilt-zoom controls to video panels when using PTZ-enabled Axis video cameras [rose-point-ecs]
Added the ability select which camera to view on multi-source Axis video servers
Added the brightness slider to Settings
Highlight the News and Announcements button when new items are available
Added two variable range markers to the own-ship display options [coastal-explorer]
Added support for alert phrases from MermAId devices [rose-point-ecs]
Improved pick reports for NEWOBJ class objects
Exclude Location Services from sensor priorities (they are always at the lowest priority)
Disable the Sync Now button during a sync
Make range/bearing look lke range/bearing lines while they are being created
Today’s update includes a potential replacement for the old NMEA 0183 Data Server option that is much easier to use. The desktop programs will now automatically share data from serial ports over the network. (Data received over the network is not shared since it should already be available to all of the apps and repeating it would just use more network bandwidth.)
If you have a desktop system running Coastal Explorer or Rose Point ECS with a USB GPS or USB Serial Adapter connected to an NMEA 0183 device, that Coastal Explorer/Rose Point ECS will appear on the Electronics page of other desktop or mobile apps along with a list of the ports it is sharing and that data can be used by those apps.
We’ve also added support for the Actisense NGT-1 USB NMEA 2000 adapter and data from its NMEA 2000 devices is also made available over the network.
And in Rose Point ECS we’ve enhanced voyage plan printing to include more information about the vessel and its tow, the destinations, the log entry, etc. This enhanced print out is available via a new Print Voyage Plan button on the Depart page. We will continue to evolve this print out, so please let us know of any requirements or ideas you might have.

Today’s update changes how you can select whether or not to use charts and data that has not been “installed”, adds a warning when you’re viewing uninstalled charts, and a progress indicator when loading chart data is taking a while. We’ve also added and updated a lot of help topics (but still have a lot more to do).
