Coastal Explorer iOS & AIS / Position Data over Wi-Fi via Pilot Plug

Looking for any user experience with supplying position and AIS data to Coastal Explorer App on iOS over Wi-Fi, specifically a Furuno FA170 via the Pilot Plug Unit. I’m using a device that has worked well on the windows based Rosepoint ECS (an E-sea Cat Rot).

Does anyone have any devices that they’ve used successfully?

Hello, I hope I can help you. I have always used for multiple MiniPlex-3Wi-N2K AIS and GPS input , the advantage is that it can be sent via Wi-Fi and SIGNAL SERIAL ,

Hi there,

I have also used the ShipModul MiniPlex 3Wi-N2K with NMEA0183 Output Port 1 to RayMarine ST4000+, as the particular MiniPlex is designed to interface directly with RayMarine network. In that instance AIS was being provided by new Cortex VHF radio.

The problem one finds is being thrust into a multi-vendor environment… with lots of “we don’t support that config” finger pointing going on…

Do you have a Nemo device on your boat?

Also, be advised that you do Not want to buy the ShipModul via the web, as ShipModul tech support is only provided by a contracted 3rd party; Gemeco (803) 693-0777.

They basically have one wizard on staff to handle phone support (by appointment), it is very different from how Rosepoint does business.

That said; I loathe trying to manage RayMarine equipment… as their version of SeaTalk 2 network is not pure N2K (what do you expect from a Garmin guy?)

This is the product we used…
